MA - Biotech360, a new quarterly magazine developed for the biotechnology
community by the publishers of The Scientist, was launched today at the
Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) annual meeting. The magazine,
published quarterly, will reach an estimated 30,000 influential readers
around the globe.
Biotech360's premiere issue focuses on the theme "how biotech is impacting
the developing world." With two million people still dying every year from
tuberculosis and the current vaccine considered inadequate at best, the
world needs new therapies. The story describes the work of a team at Harvard
University that believes that a new method of delivery for the vaccine could
be the key to beating back TB. The issue also explores biofuels being
developed in Kenya and the promise of, and obstacles faced by, genetically
modified crops.

"The mission in creating Biotech360 was simple," says The Scientist Group
Publisher Richard Gallagher: "To hold up a mirror to global biotechnological
advances and policy discussions and offer our readers the most provocative
and relevant stories."

Biotech360 delivers unconventional content and in-depth profiling of the
people, culture and business in the biotech industry, in a sophisticated
breakthrough design usually reserved for consumer publications. It provides
a fresh perspective on the field, from experts on the inside and analysts on
the outside. By covering topics that are transforming our health, our lives,
and our world, Biotech360 offers a global view of the industry and helps
promote dialogue among key opinion-leaders.

Prominent members of the biotech community are already making their voices
heard through Biotech360. Ram Sasisekharan, professor of biological
engineering and health sciences & technology at the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology and a co-founder and director of Momenta Pharmaceuticals and
Tempo Pharmaceuticals, gives his top tips on turning research into a start
up. Greg Lucier, Invitrogen's CEO, calls on his colleagues in biotech to
work together to encourage increases in federal funding for basic research,
which would help academics and biotech companies.

"The key to Biotech360 arises from the delivery: instead of just giving
news, it provides the background, including successes, failures, and
conflicting opinions," says Biotech360's premiere issue editor Mike May. "It
truly lets readers see how biotech operates from an on-the-ground
perspective."

The Scientist, magazine of the life sciences, worked in partnership with
Santa Cruz, Calif.-based Technology Vision Group, a trusted advisor to the
world's leading life science companies and institutions, to develop the
select Biotech360 readership. "Our primary target audience is global
influencers in biotechnology," says The Scientist marketing director Leslie
Schultz. "This publication reaches the leaders in the field -- from
executives at small biotech firms and large pharma companies to venture
capitalists, policymakers, lobbyists, entrepreneurial academics, and
interested consumers."

Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals sponsored the premiere issue of Biotech360.
"It was a pleasure to work with P&G, as they have a very interesting story
to tell and see the value of a new, sophisticated global biotech magazine,"
says Jeremy Abbate, Director of Business Development for The Scientist.
"While many people are familiar with their consumer brands, not many people
know about their pharmaceutical division and their unique partnering model."
