EXPERTS ADVOCATE BIOTECH TO COMBAT FOOD SCARCITY AND POVERTY IN BANGLADESH

Professor Dr. Muhammad Mizanuddin, Vice Chancellor, University of Rajshahi
expressed his all out support to research, development and extension of
biotechnological research in Bangladesh. During his inauguration of the
Conference on "Biotechnology for Better Tomorrow" on 29 March 2014 at the
Senate House of the university, he urged the scientists from home and abroad
to work together to combat the present food scarcity and poverty through the
adoption of biotechnology products.

Professor Dr. Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of
Rajshahi, Dr. Md Saidul Islam, DG, National Institute of Biotechnology,
Professor Dr. A.M. Deshmukh, President, Microbiologist Society India (MSI)
and other Professors from the country and abroad made their remarks and
presentation on biosafety, forensic, microbial and environmental
biotechnology. They also emphasized on public-private partnership
initiatives in biotech industries.

The conference was jointly organized by Institute of Biological Sciences
(IBSc) and MSI under the financial support from University Grants Commission
and was chaired by Prof Dr Tanzima Yeasmin, IBSc Director, where around 150
teachers, scientists, policy planners, research students, NGO/private
industry representatives and journalists have attended.
