Research and Markets released the Animal Biotechnology Report for 2014. The
report describes and evaluates animal biotechnology and its application in
veterinary medicine and pharmaceuticals and also in food production. The
report also contains profiles of over 100 companies involved in animal
biotechnology, and research activities of 11 veterinary and livestock
research institutes.

According to the report, biotechnology has potential applications in
management of several animal diseases such as food-and-mouth diseases,
classical swine fever, avian flu, and bovine spongiform encephalopathy. The
most vital biotech products are vaccines, specifically genetically
engineered or DNA vaccines. Gene therapy in animals in also progressing
rapidly because clinical trials for humans were developed in animals and
many of these human diseases are similar in cats and dogs. Veterinary
medicine is now using RNA interference technology.
