Europeans Now Less Skeptic About GMOs

Surveys commissioned by the European Union (EU) show that Europeans are now less concerned about the presence of geneticalle engineered Organisms (GMOs) in food and the enwironment, contrary to popular belief that Europeans are against GMOs.

In an article published by Mihael Cristin Ichim of the National Institute of Research and Development for Biological Sciences in Romania, the author details how much decrease in Europeans' attitudes towards GMOs was recorded by Eurobarometer surveys. Concerns about GMOs in the environment dropped from 30% in 2005 to 19% in 2011, while concerns about the use of GM ingredients in food dropped from 63% in 2005 to 27% in 2019.
The increasing acceptance of GMOs by Europeans may support a positive change in regulations for testing and commercial cultivation of GM Crops in the EU.
